Baltimore History

Baltimore can trace back its origins to the 17th century when the area was first settled by an Englishman called David Jones. German immigrants then arrived followed by the Dutch. The city however was officially founded in 1729, originally as a port for the growing tobacco and sugar trade, and was named after the second Lord Baltimore, George Calvert.
